National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a flagship activity of the NCERT. The NTSE scholar is always recognized as an extra ordinary student because the NTSE is itself widely regarded as the most prestigious examination at high school level in India. The eligibility for these examination is class X appearing student. NTSE exam consist of two stage process. Stage I will be conducted by respective state government and stage II will be in national level. The qualified NTSE scholar will get monthly scholarship from 11 standard to entire academic program including Ph.D.


NTSE exam pattern

The National Talent Search Examination will be conducted for students studying at the Class X level. The examination consists of tests namely Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), which also includes Language Comprehensive Test (LCT). The items in the MAT, SAT & LCT are multiple choice questions. Each question has four alternatives. Candidates have to select one correct answer from the given alternatives and mark its number in the answer-sheet as per instructions given on the answer sheet. Each correct answer carries one mark and for each wrong answer there is a negative marking scheme announced from session 2013-14. Thus, the total score of a candidate in a test is equal to the number of questions answered correctly by him/her.


On the basis of the National Talent Search Examination, Every year around 1000 scholarships will be awarded. The amount of scholarship will be as under:


There will be two-stage selection process for award of scholarship. For NTSE Stage-I, Selection will be done by States/UTs through a written examination. Students, who Qualify Stage- I, will be eligible to appear for Stage-II examination, conducted by NCERT.


15% scholarships will be reserved for students belonging to the SC category, 7.5% scholarships for students belonging to the ST category and 3% for Physically Challenged Group of Students.
